Yvette Fielding, the well-known host of Most Haunted, has spoken out against a celebrity who dismissed her ghost hunting pursuits as “really stupid.” The 55-year-old presenter, who has led the popular paranormal show since its inception in 2002, is no stranger to scepticism, but this recent encounter has prompted her to defend her passion.
In a conversation with Metro.co.uk ahead of the release of her latest book, Most Haunted Castles, Fielding reflected on the moment when a celebrity openly ridiculed her work in front of others. “I don’t like it when people are rude,” she shared, recalling how the comment made her feel as if the ground had opened up beneath her. “That’s my religion. I’m a spiritualist, and I wouldn’t ridicule anyone else’s beliefs.”
Over the years, Fielding has documented numerous spooky experiences, from being attacked by unseen forces to witnessing unnerving events on camera. Despite the naysayers, she remains steadfast in her belief in the paranormal, emphasising that the testimonies of fans and fellow investigators have only strengthened her resolve.
Fielding recounted some particularly chilling moments while researching her book, including a visit to Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland, where she and her crew discovered human remains during their investigation. “We heard something hit the floor, and when we shone our torches, we found a bone. It was terrifying!” she exclaimed, adding that they later found a human tooth, prompting them to flee the scene.
Another eerie experience took place at Oxford Castle, where Fielding and her team found themselves inexplicably locked inside a turret. “The door slammed shut, and we had to use our phones to call for help,” she explained, revealing that no one could have locked them in from the outside.
Despite these frightening encounters, Fielding’s passion for exploring haunted locations remains undiminished. She described it as akin to a “roller coaster ride,” with moments that thrill and terrify her crew. During one investigation at Pengersick Castle in Cornwall, two crew members were so frightened that they bolted to their car, claiming they could hear footsteps outside.
Fielding also shared experiences from her own home, where she noticed strange occurrences soon after moving in. “I would often hear my children’s voices calling out for me, only to find no one there,” she recalled. Additionally, kitchen chairs would inexplicably rearrange themselves, and her husband even saw a ghostly figure resembling a Cavalier outside their house.
Reflecting on how these experiences have shaped her beliefs, Fielding admitted, “Before Most Haunted, I didn’t believe in an afterlife. But now I feel happier knowing we do see our loved ones again.”
With the launch of Most Haunted Castles, Yvette Fielding invites fans to join her on a journey through some of the UK’s most haunted locations, further exploring the mysteries of the paranormal world. As she continues to investigate the unknown, her commitment to her craft remains unwavering, proving that she won’t let criticism deter her from what she loves.
