A Sheffield-based artist, Daniel Halksworth, has garnered attention by creating an extraordinary collection of realistic oil paintings, focusing primarily on fried eggs.
Since he started painting food, Halksworth has sold over 600 pieces, building a substantial following on social media and even featuring his work in a Super Bowl advert.
Daniel Halksworth did not initially set out to make a living from painting eggs. An old painting he made at his parent’s house, including everyday objects and a fried egg, changed his career.
During the lockdown, when his girlfriend Caz Haigh lost her retail job, Halksworth began to sell his art online. Miss Haigh even sold some of her clothes to help pay the rent.
Halksworth’s first fried egg painting was a hit locally but demand for his egg art continued to rise. Encouraged by Haigh, he painted more eggs using her fried creations as models.
In the last four years, he has painted 615 variations of fried eggs. These include different sizes and forms, from double-yolked to those seasoned with pepper, all done in their Sheffield flat.
The eggs are not wasted; the couple and their dog, Sid, enjoy them for brunch a few times a week.
Halksworth’s egg paintings have made their way to 30 different countries, as indicated by an “egg map” created by his girlfriend.
Among his patrons are celebrities and amusing cases like a resident of Bacon Street and a person named Egg.
Earlier this year, one of Halksworth’s egg paintings was featured in a Super Bowl advert by a major mayonnaise brand, alongside actress Kate McKinnon and Mayo Cat.
This spot has further increased his popularity and demand for his unique art pieces.
Halksworth also paints other food items, although his fried eggs remain the most popular. His portfolio includes avocados, which have become popular companion pieces.
Despite having painted over 600 fried eggs, Halksworth’s enthusiasm remains undiminished. He expresses that each new painting feels as exciting as the first one.
The artist’s attention to detail and commitment to his craft is reflected in the quality and realism of his paintings.
Daniel Halksworth’s journey from an occasional painter to a renowned artist selling hundreds of egg paintings is a testament to his unique vision and dedication.
His story illustrates how a simple subject, when approached with passion and creativity, can lead to unexpected and global artistic success.
