Acclaimed actress Daisy Edgar-Jones is set to take on an exciting new challenge as she returns to the stage later this year. Best known for her standout performance in Normal People, Edgar-Jones will star in a fresh production of Tennessee Williams’ classic play Cat On A Hot Tin Roof at London’s prestigious Almeida Theatre. The eight-week run, starting on 10 December, marks a significant stage role for the actress, who has risen to international fame in recent years.
Edgar-Jones will be joined by a talented cast, including Lennie James, famous for his roles in Line of Duty and The Walking Dead, and Kingsley Ben-Adir, who recently appeared in Barbie and portrayed Bob Marley in the upcoming biopic One Love. This new interpretation of Williams’ Pulitzer Prize-winning drama promises to captivate London audiences with its intense exploration of family dynamics and personal struggles.
A Return to Theatre for Edgar-Jones
While Edgar-Jones gained worldwide recognition for her role in Normal People during the pandemic, she has previously graced the Almeida stage. In 2020, she appeared in Mike Bartlett’s play Albion just before the Covid-19 pandemic brought theatre productions to a halt. Since then, her career has flourished, with notable roles in films like Where The Crawdads Sing and Twisters, as well as her continued success in television.
Though Cat On A Hot Tin Roof marks her first significant return to the stage since becoming a household name, Edgar-Jones was involved in the recent production of Red Rabbit White Rabbit at Soho Place. This unique show featured a rotating cast of actors, with a different star leading each performance throughout the run. However, her upcoming role in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof will allow Edgar-Jones to fully showcase her talents in front of live audiences once again.
A Star-Studded Cast
Joining Edgar-Jones on stage is Lennie James, whose commanding performances in Line of Duty and The Walking Dead have made him a favourite with UK and international audiences. Kingsley Ben-Adir, another celebrated actor, will also star alongside her. Ben-Adir has recently been seen in Barbie and will soon appear as reggae legend Bob Marley in One Love.
The Almeida Theatre’s newly announced season also features a host of exciting productions. Ruth Wilson, known for her roles in Luther and The Affair, will take on the lead role in A Moon for the Misbegotten, co-starring US actor Michael Shannon. Shannon, whose film credits include Revolutionary Road and Knives Out, will add another layer of star power to the Almeida’s stellar lineup.
