A pub in Droitwich Spa has set a new record by serving the longest bratwurst ever seen in the Midlands. The 12.12-metre sausage, cooked up by Seared Pubs, was unveiled on Saturday as part of the pub’s Oktoberfest celebrations, drawing hundreds of locals eager to get a taste of the German festival closer to home.
The bratwurst, which symbolised the 1,212-kilometre distance between the pub and Munich’s Theresienwiese – the home of Oktoberfest – was the main attraction at the event. Cooked to perfection and topped with crispy onions, mustard, and curry ketchup, the impressive sausage gave pub-goers a chance to sample authentic German flavours in an extraordinary format. It was made using a traditional German recipe, scaled up to create what is believed to be the longest bratwurst ever created in the UK.
The event at The Castle, a local Seared Pubs establishment, featured much more than just a giant sausage. An Oompah band provided lively entertainment, and visitors participated in stein-holding competitions and other Oktoberfest games, all while enjoying the pub’s new Oktoberfest menu, which includes bratwurst, schnitzel, and Bavarian beer.
Rebecca Hall, General Manager at The Castle, expressed her excitement about the event, saying: “Droitwich Spa may be far from Munich, but we wanted to bring the authentic Oktoberfest experience to our customers. Creating the longest bratwurst in the Midlands was a fun way to mark the occasion. Our team loved grilling this enormous sausage, and we’re excited to offer customers more delicious German dishes from the same recipe throughout Oktoberfest.”
The impressive bratwurst was supplied by The Sausage Man, a company that specialises in producing authentic German sausages. Marc Razzell, the company’s spokesperson, commented on the unique challenge: “When Seared Pubs approached us with the idea, we were keen to take it on. Our bratwursts are made using a traditional German recipe that has been passed down through generations, so it was important to us that the giant version retained the same flavour and quality.”
The Castle’s Oktoberfest event proved to be a hit with locals, as many took advantage of the opportunity to try the bratwurst for free. The festive atmosphere, complete with live music and traditional games, made it a memorable occasion for attendees. The positive response from the community highlights the success of the pub’s efforts to bring a taste of Munich to Droitwich Spa.
Seared Pubs, a Greene King brand, is known for its globally inspired menu and great value pub classics. Its special Oktoberfest menu, available until the end of October, offers customers a range of German favourites including bratwurst, schnitzel, and steins of Bavarian beer.
For those who missed the chance to sample the record-breaking bratwurst, The Castle will continue serving bratwurst made from the same recipe throughout the month. The pub is open daily, offering a blend of local favourites and international dishes, as well as live sport, weekly quizzes, and live music events.
